2000: Thank you so much! |
|
We are happy to announce that a good time
was had by all at our 3rd Annual Convention, held this past
weekend in Birmingham.
A full report will be up in the Events
Section in the New Year, once we have all the evidence (er sorry,
photos and vidoe) back. Needless to say it was yet again an
eventfull time, many thanks to everyone who came along. We are
definitely looking forward to both the THATTERS REUION in April
and the GB FANS 4th Annual Convention next year.
Our numbers may have been down this year,
but certainly the spirit was definitely up - despite a very
quiet year on the Gary front.
We raised a total of £955.51 for
Rainbow Trust, which will be sent out to the Trust, once
all cheques have cleared! Thank you to everyone who took part
in the Auction, but especially Debra Woolfenden and Steve Lal,
who certainly kept us all with baited breath during the Auction
for the photo album, which eventually went to Debra for the
sum of £296! She also managed to come to an agreement with Steven
that if he made a £50 donation to the Trust, she would copy
pictures from the album for him. A grand total of £346.00!
The My Commitment T-shirt raised
£55 for the Trust. A full list of all items and amounts raised
will be available shortly!
Thank you once again to everyone who came,
didn't we have a great time? It was great to re-live those wonderful
memories of last year's tout.
Even though Gary wasn't
there in the flesh, he was in spirit. Our wonderful cabaret,
Dave Nicholls, gave his all and went down a storm. We certainly
hope that Davey goes on to bigger things, he has a wonderful
voice and his renditions of Gary's songs were fantastic.

2000: Get your CD Now! |
|
We have heard back from Seth, who is willing
to buy as many "I'll Take You There" CDs from the radio
station as he gets orders for. However, you only have till 3
December 2000 to get your order in to Seth at schizophonic26@hotmail.com.
Please
email him for further information. He is doing this at no
profit to himself, all he asks is the cost of the CD (10 US
Dollars), plus post and packing. The 10 Dollars does direct
to the Radio Station in aid of Kidd's Charity.
|
| 16 November
2000: A newly discovered recording! |
|
Thanks to Seth on the
GBML Mailing List for
informing everyone of the availability of a previously unknown
Gary recording. Once again GBML comes up trumps with fans
giving great news!
Seth found a local radio
dj in the USA had written a song for his special charity KIDD's
Kids Charity. The song is called "I Want to Take You
There" and was written by Kidd to raise much needed
funding for his charity. Gary dropped by the radio station
on a visit to Dallas in 1997 and agreed to record a version,
which was then put on to CD.
The song is wonderful
and beautifully sung by Gary. Seth has informed us that the
CD was actually released back in 1997 and there are very few
copies left, so obviously this is quite a rare item indeed.
We wrote to Seth to ask for details of where we can perhaps
find a copy of this CD, but regretfully he informs us that
they are all but gone, as it is now 3 years since it went
on sale. He is hoping to be able to get hold of a copy for
us and we will let you know if he is able to find any more
copies. We hope to put a sample on this site shortly, once
we have bought our own copy - or maybe if Seth agrees for
us to lift 15 seconds worth from his recording!
Many thanks also to Ang
from GBML for the wonderful job he does in bringing fans together!

it is 5 pages in content with only one mono-colour picture,
which is on the front.
We are looking forward
to seeing the new Newsletter - this means that all Members
should have it within the next 7 days, allowing for postal

For fans abroad, we
realise it is difficult for you to come along to the Convention

will be saving one or two items for a special auction for
fans outside of the UK.
This auction will take
the form of a postal bid, which means you actually write in
to us with your bid - so we have your name and address to
prove that you are someone living outside the UK. More details
about this will follow once the Convention is over. We didn't
want you to feel left out.
We are looking forward
to seeing as many of you as possible on 9th December, for

2000: Y2K Convention - Wonderful News! |
|
Our very sincere thanks
go to Gary, Kristina and Mike for the wonderful items they
have donated for our Auction in aid of Rainbow Trust.
Some of the items are unique, one off samples. We are truly
grateful and gob-smacked. Gary has also kindly agreed to sign
a number of items we have sent in to GloBe as auction items
and raffle prizes. A full list of the items donated for the
Auction will be up on this site shortly.
This Auction is being
held at our Y2K Convention on Saturday, 9th December 2000
for those fans attending. If you would like to join us for
this exciting event, tickets are still on sale and you
have until 25th November to get your ticket. This
is your chance to get hold of some truly unique Gary merchandise
and raise money for this very worthwhile Charity, plus have
a very good time doing it! We look forward to hearing from
you.

2000 - Fan Club Hotline Updated |
|
Mike updated the Fan
Club Hotline (0906 3633330) on 23 October, to inform
everyone that the Newsletter is now at the printers and he
is hoping to have it sent out within the next 10 days! He
goes on to reassure fans that all concerns presented to him
will be addressed in the Newsletter. There will be a range
of options for members to go for. This is not a sign that
the fan club is closing, it is just a streamlining in line
with Gary's career at the present time. Members will soon
have the Newsletter to judge for themselves, we are really
looking forward to it!

October 2000: LIE TO ME CDs
|
|
You will note that we
have deleted all references to the above, with the exception
of the email from Mr White, which we believe needs to be left
here in order for you to decide what to do with regard to
ordering the LIE TO ME CD.
For our part, we decided
to cancel our order for the CD, as we feel that it is unlikely
to be released by BMG now that they and Gary have parted company.

October 2000: An Email from Music Selection
|
|
We received the email
below today from Music Selection. We are totally puzzled by
their reaction, because we have only expressed our concerns,
and those of other fans, about the fact that they are advertising
n CD which has never been released and accepting orders for
it.
We must apologise to
everyone for putting up the first message, but we acted in
good faith - believing that no company would advertise a product
it did not actually have in stock. We were naive, but please
be assured that we will be far more careful in future! We
are cancelling our order with the Company, because it is unlikely
that the CD will ever be available at the present time.
Here is the email for
you to judge for yourselves.
"I was directed to your
site in reference to some remarks about our company which
have been placed on your site.
First I must clarify
that the information on our site www.musicselection.com
is provided to us by the record companies and their distributors.
The Gary Barlow cd's best we can tell have not been released
thus far, however the companies we download the data from
insist it will be in the future, thus if we were to edit the
file or remove it their system would then put it back on when
we do our next download.
Also we have not given
any of the fans "fobbed" as you have stated. Since our staff
are trained to explain why an item is taking so long.
MusicSelection.com Inc
has been in business since 1996 and was the first on-line
music retailer in Canada, we are well aware of the laws protecting
e-commerce customers and we strictly adhere to them. We also
subscribe to e-commerce insurance which further protects our
clientele against any wrong doings our company may do. To-date
this has never been used.
We find your remarks
very insulting to our company and we herby request that the
wording be change so your visitors do not get the wrong impression
about our company.
I will be editing our
files here to reflect what we have found on your site on these
items so future clients are not mislead by our suppliers.
Sincerely;
Ray White
President
MusicSelection.com Inc."

October 2000: Fan Club Hotline Updated
|
|
Mike has today updated
the Fan Club Hotline (0906 363 3330) with the news
that there will be no further CDs made, but instead they will
be producing their first ever Newsletter, which will be sent
out to all members during the month of October.
The reasons for the
change are given in the Newsletter, but Mike will be ringing
Gary tomorrow (6 October) to finish off an interview regarding
the birth of the baby and how it feels to be a father. Once
this is done, the Newsletter will be completed and sent off
to the printers!
This is very good news
for those of us who have never had the time to listen to the
tapes and CDs! We can now sit down even on the bus and read!
Brilliant idea!
Mike has once again
kindly advertised our Convention on the Hotline, with full
details given - brilliant ad Mike! Many thanks Mike, we really
appreciate this - you are a true star!
So
watch out in your postboxes for that Newsletter!

| 25 March 2000: Gary and BMG/RCA |
|
It has been reported in the Press that BMG/RCA
have released Gary from his contract. T here is a lot of speculation
and rumour about at the moment, and we do not wish to add
to it.
Mike Hrano has informed fans on The
Gary Barlow Official Website that
an official statement will be put on the site shortly. We
therefore suggest you keep checking the NEWS section
there, to get the OFFICIAL news direct from the man himself.
We would like to thank
Mike for keeping us all informed and look forward to hearing

| 29 February 2000: Heartbeat
Update - Caught by Surprise! |
|
ITV's This Morning programme pulled a fast one
on us this week - they broadcast the behind the scenes at "HEARTBEAT"
today instead of Friday, 3 March, as advertised! For those of
you who missed the programme, we were able to tape it.
Gary looked really good, not like the newspaper photos which
made him look chubby! Bill Maynard, one of the regular actors
commented on what a "natural" Gary was and that he had taken
to acting like "a duck to water"! Well Done Gary!
Gary did a short interview with Susan Brooks
on the set and he really seemed to enjoy his acting experience.
|
29 February 2000: Heartbeat
Update - Calling Norwegian and Scandanavian Fans! |
|
We have received the following email from
Mich in Norway, who informs us that Heartbeat is shown in
her country:-
"I live in Norway. Could you please put
this out on your page? That HEARTBEAT is on Norwegian tv.
All the Norwegians I've talked to is sad coz its not on, but
it is - under a different name.
It would be nice if you put it out, so
all the people who have the tv station in Norway, and Scandinavia
gets the news!
The tv station is NRK and the time is
21:35 at saturdays."
Many thanks Mich, we are very grateful for
this information.
|
22 February 2000: New G-Mail
from Gary |
|
Gary did a new G-Mail on 21 February, announcing
that he is to become a dad! Well done to both Gary and Dawn
and congratulations from us all at GB FANS. To see the message
in full please go to The
Gary Barlow Official Website under G-MAIL.
|
22 February 2000: Helping
The rainbow Trust |
|
As many of you may already know, GB FANS has
followed Gary's lead and taken up The Rainbow Trust as one
of our Nominated Charities, the other being Radio Lollipop
(Children's Hospital Radio).
Jan has decided to aid her in her mission
to lose weight, she would go on a Sponsored Slim in
aid of The Rainbow Trust. We have contacted Claire Guthrie
from the Trust, who has now sent Jan official sponsorship
forms.
We are now looking for anyone who would like
to sponsor Jan to lose 2 stones. There is no set time period,
though Jan would like to have lost the two stones by the end
of August! If you would like to sponsor Jan (no matter how
small or large an amount), please contact her at janjan@merseymail.com.
|
10 February 2000: Heartbeat
Update |
|
According to newspaper reports, Gary has just
finished filming scenes for his appearance in the 150th episode
of Heartbeat. Apparently, he plays the part of a hobo (tramp)!
That should be interesting to see (hehehe),
The programme will be broadcast on Sunday,
5th March 2000 at 8.00 p.m. on ITV. There is a repeat on ITV2
the following evening (check tv guides for times).
|
| 5 February 2000: Fans
Needed for TV Programme |
|
We have been contacted by Granadamedia, who
are making a programme called TRIBES, which is looking at
the social culture of the UK. They are doing one of their
programmes on FANS and have asked if Gary fans would like
to take part. GB FANS has decided not to take part in the
programme because we are very wary of tv/press after the Big
Breakfast fiasco.
However, the programme makers assure us that
this is not a mickey take, they are looking for fans who consider
themselves to be huge Gary fans, but who also like a bit of
fun and don't take themselves too seriously. If you are interested,
please contact Michaela at:-
michaela.delarabond@granadamedia.com
|
5 February 2000: Official
Website Problems |
|
It seems that there is a server problem with
the Official Website at the moment. Many of us can't access
the site. We have emailed the Webmaster to find out the reason
for the problem, but it may well be it is just a crash and
the site could be back on soon. Please keep on trying to access
it at http://www.garybarlow.co.uk.
We hope it's not off for too long.
|
| 3 February 2000: New
Single/Heartbeat |
|
Many thanks to our intrepid reporter, Debbie
Cresswell in Nottingham, for sending us a copy of a reply
she received from BMG in response to an enquiry she made.
BMG state that the song All that I've Given
will be heavily featured in the episode Gary will be recording.
They go on to say that because of this, All that I've Given
may well be the next single, rather than Lie to Me.
No definite decision has been made yet, but a single is still
on schedule to be released.
We had heard that the planned release date
was 27 March 2000, if we hear any news, we will let you know.
|
1 February 2000: Eastenders
Plays Gary! |
|
A big WELL DONE to the Sound team on the BBC's
EASTENDERS (a soap over here in the UK). All that I've
Given Away was played in the background as two of
the characters (Sandra Di Marco and Jackie Owen) where chatting
away in Ian Beale's cafe. Don't ask us the dialogue of the
scene, we were too busy listening to the music!
Good to hear that someone at the BBC has good
taste, playing a song from the album! The programme is repeated
on Sunday for anyone who missed it first time around.
|
28 January 2000: New G-Mail
