Many thanks to Debbie from Nottingham for providing us with this news.....

Gary was interviewed by Des Lynam on Radio 2 on Friday. He sounded relaxed and happy. They discussed football, the Grand Prix and of course music.

Gary said: -

  • He wasn't going to the Grand Prix as he couldn't get a ticket or a flight,
  • He is definitely not friends with Robbie
  • His Mum thought that he used to sound drunk when he first began singing
  • The new single is a collaboration with the guitarist from 10cc

According to BRMB radio there is a "Party in the Park" in the area on Saturday, June 5th at Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham. It is free and Gary will be appearing. Steps will headline. GB FANS have not confirmed this appearance, but will let you know for definite as soon as possible.

25 May 1999 - Gary on GRANADA TONIGHT! Report 1/1

Was it worth it - we here you ask? Well maybe, at least he was on tele, even if it was for two/three minutes with not much content!

Gary was interviewed by Paul Crone at KEY 103 studios. He looked very fit and healthy, wearing green combat pants, white t-shirt and black sleeveless bodywarmer - he was also sporting a "goatee" beard!

When asked about the recent articles in THE SUN, Gary replied "Don't believe everything you read in newspapers"! (Having read an article in Music Week this week where Gary said that the articles were the truth but that he was disappointed at how it turned out, we are now totally confused!! Just what is the truth? . . . ed)

The subject was then quickly changed to the new single, due to be released on 5 July (we also understand that 4 October 1999 is the proposed date for the release of the album "Stonger"). Paul suggested that Gary should "get out there and do some promotion, more interviews on tv like this". Gary said that he was using this interview as a rehearsal!

Gary then asked Paul if he was going to run the new single and offered him a suitcase of ten pound notes to do so! (LOL) - Gary was certainly back on form, back to his usual boyish humoured self! A small clip of the Open Book video was shown with the snippit of the remixed "Stronger" which is a very much improved song and definitely a Top 10 hit!!

Good news for Spanish fans, Gary told Paul that he was off to Barcelona this weekend to watch the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, 30th May!!

Although the interview was very short without much content, it was good to see Gary back on our screens again.

WELCOME BACK GARY!!!

Apologies for the delay in posting this news, but we have been away for a few days and unable to access FTP to update.

Gary is currently visiting Vancouver and New Mexico to shoot the video for his new single, which the Fan Club say will be "Stronger" and he is expected back in the UK on 15 April when Mike will be trying to pin some dates down with him to record CD5 "In Conversation With".

Mike is also hoping to launch the new official Website to coincide with the release of the new single.

14 March 99 : Congratulations Gary!

With thanks to GBML members being quick off the mark they bought us the news that Gary has finally asked his long time girlfriend Dawn Andrews to marry him! The story was broken by the Sun newspaper yesterday and the below article from the newspaper was first posted on the GBML.....

Gary Barlow is planning a Millennium wedding after getting engaged to long time girlfriend Dawn Andrews. The former TAke That star popped the question during a romantic Valentine's Date dinner at New York's exclusive Four Seasons Hotel. Dawn immediately and "Yes" and they celebrated with a bottle of champagne.

A diner said; There was a bit of commotion and then she screamed. "They seemed to be a couple very much in love they couldn't keep their hands off each other. Gary looked like the cat who got the cream. He was smiling from ear to ear". The next day Gary and Dawn both 28, bought a stunning £10,000 diamond ring from a trendy 5th Avenue jeweller.

They then spent a romantic night at Niagara Falls. A pal of Gary's says: "He'd been planning it for a while and was very nervous. But I don't think there was ever a chance she would say no. They're well suited and always support one another no matter what life throws at them."
Gary fell for Dawn while she was a dancer on Take That's final tour in March 1996.

Many congratulations to Dawn and Gary from all of us at GB FANS.

10 March 99 : Happy 99 Virus Alert
We thought it best to warn you about a virus that is spreading rapidly through the email and newsgroup system.

The virus is more like a worm and is delivered directly into your mailbox attached to somebody's email message. Before you get upset if this has happened to you, the person sending it probably has no idea that they it has attached itself to the email.

The worm is called 'Happy99.exe' and when it gets delivered to someone's mailbox and they open up the attachement, this will then change the file that affects how your emails are sent out. It will instruct your mail program to attach a copy of this worm to EVERY email that you send out. For example: If you are a regular on email discussion lists and you unknowingly have this worm attaching itself to your emails, then you have most probably infected a further 100 people!

Although it doesn't actually damage your hard drive or affect your computer, this is still an increasing program and is spreading very rapidly. In fact that is why we are letting you know, because our web designer has just fallen into it's trap and managed to get rid of it.

It is very hard to tell if you have the virus or not and judging by how quickly it is spreading we recommend that you check your system just in case. Follow the link below for details about the virus, how to check if you have it and finally how to remove it.

  1. What it was like for them when that happened
  2. Why Take That?
  3. What Take That or any individual member of the group means to them
  4. Whether anybody or anything else has taken Take That's place
  5. Through what trouble and lengths they have gone to go to concerts or try to meet their star in person

25 January 99 : A Message from Gary

We have been asked by Gary's management company to pass on the message below which is from Gary to all fans. This message has been passed to all Gary Webmasters who took part in the Message Book project last September and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their help and support in "Bringing Fans Together". This message from Gary is to thank everyone who has sent him messages, letters and presents over the past few months. . . .

" Hi there, you probably won't believe this, but it is actually Gary Barlow here. Anyhow, as my management company has passed all your website thoughts and messages on to me I just thought I'd let you all know that I am thinking of you.

I know you're all pretty fed up about the tour and about the long wait for my new material but the fact of the matter is that I have to finish the new album. I love touring as you all know so this wasn't an easy decision but if I don't crack on I won't have any new material to play to you let alone release!!

For one reason or another, the production side of things has got really delayed due to people being ill or unavailable, producer's having babies etc and this is the only reason that the tour has been postponed. I don't ever want to give any of you anything that isn't my absolute best especially when you've all been so supportive and kind and so I hope you'll understand why this has happened.

It was great receiving all the letters from you before Christmas and it really cheered me up reading your messages. It's impossible for me to reply to every letter but I love reading them and hearing about what you're up to. Anyway, it won't be long before I'm back in action, the new single will definitely be out in July and the rescheduled dates will be announced by the end of the week.

I enjoyed seeing some of you at The Parkinson Show cos it means a lot to me knowing that you are still there for me. The Fanclub hotline will keep you updated with news of anymore promotional events and if I don't see you before I can promise you that we'll have a really special time on the Christmas Tour.

Also, a big big thank you for those of you who sent me Christmas and Birthday presents. Mike passed a lot of pressies on to me and I've been chomping my way through all the choccy ever since !!! I got some good books too, a bit of aftershave and even a towel! I have to say that all in all I'm pretty well looked after.

Bye for now, I am thinking of you,

Lots of love Gary xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

24 January 99 : Childline Concert, The Point, Dublin Report 1/1

Unfortunately, due to "recording commitments" Gary had to pull out of last night's charity concert for CHILDLINE at The Point in Dublin.

23 January 99 : Gary's Appearance on PARKINSON Report 1/1

Gary appeared on the PARKINSON Show last night and sang "Stronger", the title track from his new album, which we hope we will all see before the Autumn.

Gary appeared quite well, though he had the dreaded stubble! The song is excellent and for those of you who did not get to hear it on PARKY we will have a sound file up shortly in our MULTIMEDIA section, together with the Lyrics. We also hope to show clips from the Show in our PICTURE files.

Although Gary sounded in fine form, the postponed Tour was mentioned only briefly as now being set back to the end of the year.

20 January 99 : Postponed Tour/New Album/Survey Report 1/1

Fan Club members should be receiving a short note from the club which basically covers all of what has been said by Gary on the Fan Club Hotline regarding the postponed tour details of which can be found in 19th January news entry.

They also mention that Gary will be performing a song called 'Stronger' (possibly his new single) on Parkinson this weekend. 'Stronger' will be the TITLE track of Gary's up and coming second solo album.

Please note that our 'Great Gary Barlow Survey' (in consultation with the fan club) is now online for you to complete, the first lot of results will be sent off to GloBe and the Fan Club at the end of February.

19 January 99 : UK TOUR POSTPONED Report 1/1

We are sorry to have to inform you but it has just been announced that the UK Tour in April/May has been postponed until a date later in the year (no date arranged as yet). Full details of all the new dates will be sent out to Fanclub members with CD4 which will (apparently) be sent out at the end of January.

If you are a member of the Fan Club and have access to the Fanclub Hotline number there is a personal message from Gary announcing the news. In brief he said:

  1. The new album has been delayed (again!) and should be released by the autumn.
  2. Gary intends to release his new single before the summer.
  3. He does not wish the tour to commence without any new material to play.
  4. A full explanation of this will be given by Gary on the PARKINSON SHOW this coming Friday, 22 January (9.30 pm BBC1).
  5. He's sorry!

Many thanks to Claire Marney from GBEX for contacting us about this. We have now also spoken to GloBe and they confirm that the Tour is POSTPONED, not cancelled!

We will of course keep you posted on what Gary says about the tour after appearing on Parkinson this saturday. We know you will be feeling very disappointed once again, so there is nothing much more we can say to ease your disappointment because we too feel just the same. Feel free to leave your comments regarding this situation in the Gary Zone of the Discussion Board.

18 January 99 : The Great Gary Barlow Fans Survey! Report 1/1
In consultation with the official Gary Barlow Fan Club, we have compiled a Survey giving all Gary fans the opportunity express your views and opinions about Gary, his music, his image and his performances. The results will be passed to the Fan Club for discussion with GloBe, so that they and Gary know how the fans feel.

We are not saying that this Survey will change anything - that is not its purpose! Its purpose it to give you, the fans, the opportunity to let the Fan Club and GloBe know your views and maybe give them an insight of what we all feel.

13 January 99 : News of Single Release Report 1/1
Having been to HMV, we can confirm that they have 15 March 1999 as the release date for Gary's new single.  Unfortunately they have no title because all they have been given is "to be confirmed". Many thanks to Helen for reporting on the news on GBML. No doubt this will be the song Gary will be singing on Parky!!  Hopefully more details regarding the album will be divulged on THE PARKINSON SHOW on 22 January (BBC1 9.30 p.m. GMT)
9 January 99 : Gary to appear on PARKY Report 1/1
Sorry for the delay with this news, but we have had server problems! On 29 December 1998 the Fan Club announced that Gary is to appear on THE PARKINSON SHOW on Friday, 22 January 1999 (BBC1 9.30 p.m. GMT). We understand he will be singing a brand new song - could this be the very long -awaited new single? We hope so!! What a great news for a New Year!
