Thanks to Angela for this snippet from September's Issue of "Snoop City".

Attention Take That fans: Though the group is no longer, former member Gary Barlow recently completed his solo album scheduled for release late this summer. "I'm looking forward to showing people what I can do," the 26-year-old singer has said. "Because I don't think they've seen half of it." Take that, music fans!;

8 July 97: Cheshire Local News Articles
These two articles are taken from Cheshire Local Newspapers:

TAKE THAT FOR AN ANSWER - 23 May
"THOUSANDS of star-struck girls may consider standing for the borough council at the next election - just in case Gary Barlow wants another extension. About 15 councillors had the rare opportunity to stroll round hunky Gary's gardens in **censored** yesterday afternoon, to check out his planning application for a four car garage and guest accommodation at **censored**. They were welcomed by Gary's Dad, Colin, who lives next door. He said: "It's mainly for Gary's grandma, Margerie Cowan. She's 84 and obviously not always too good at that age.

It would be nice to have her come and stay for a while." But Colin was not hopeful after the visit. And Gary's fans would have been disappointed to hear the chair of the planning committee, Cllr Ron Woodier, say about the grounds of his £1m mansion: "It's no different to my back yard!

"I really wouldn't know who Gary Barlow was if I bumped straight into him anyway." The planning committee approved the application but Clr Woodier said: "Gary Barlow is a very famous person but we have not treated him any differently to anybody else."

OUR READERS AIR THEIR VIEWS - 3 June
"So Gary Barlow is planning more building at **censored**. This time a four car garage with guest accommodation. He has already turned the place into a cross between Stalag V and Ceaser's Palace, with eyesore eight foot high perimeter fence, obtrusive floodlighting and statues that would look more apropriate on Sunset Boulevard. For goodness sake, **censored** is a huge house, no doubt with bedrooms to spare - what does he need extra guest accommodation for? He is descecrating the area with his tacky millions which will never buy his good taste or style!" JOHN FINCH

I guess the residents near where Gary lives aren't to pleased with him then! (..Ed.)

7 July 97: Liam Hits Out At Gary!
I hope everyone is getting ready for the battle of all battles on July 14th, when Gary releases his new single "So Help Me Girl" on the very same day as Robbie's "Lazy Days"! I'll bring you the news as it happens next sunday!

In the meantime Smash Hits reports:

"Thought marriage had calmed Liam Gallagher down? Not where Gary Barlow's concerned. "I can't stand him", fumed Our Kid to a newspaper recently. "He had a go at me and Patsy in an interview, I hate his guts and the next time I see him I might hit him." This might not be a very good idea, however, Gary, you see is a karate expert and once broke a classmate's arm when blocking a punch he threw at him. "It was horrible," remembers Gaz. "There was a crack like a gunshot." Watch out, Liam!"

26 June 97: US Single News

15 June 97: Waxwork Picture!
I found this picture of Gary's waxwork model in the News Of The World today.

I reckon the model looks more like the England football manager Glen Hoddle than Gary what do you think? The picture is downloadable so just click on it to view the larger size!

15 June 97: Sound Bites from "Seventeen"
Thanks to Kelly for this snippet about Open Road from "Seventeen".

The Artist: Gary Barlow
The Sound: Open Road (Arista)

Gary Barlow may have been in the UK supergroup Take That, but he's no Spice Boy. His first solo disc features sensitive guy stuff like "Love Won't Wait," his single written by the original Spice Girl herself, Madonna (with some help from her longtime collaborator Shep Pettibone).

5 June 97: The Late Album News
Sorry forgot to mention in my last news update that Gary's album went straight into the charts at Number one this week. Also thanks to Chris again, apparently the new single "So Help Me Girl" has been put back to 14th July, possibly due to the fact that Oasis are releasing a week before!
3 June 97: Gary Fires Simon Fuller
Wow I spend a night in hospital and look at all this news I come back to! Thanks Otto for this report on Gary splitting with his most recent manager Simon Fuller.

GARY BARLOW FIRES MANAGER
Gary Barlow has fired his manager. Barlow hired Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller hoping he could help him with the final breakthrough in the USA. But it turned out Fuller hardly had any time for the ex-take thatter because of his hectic schedule concerning the Spice Girls. Gary is now looking for a new manager. Ex-Take That manager Nigel is not a candidate.

16 May 97: Dutch News
Two reports from Dutch radio station Radio 538 (thanks Otto!)

Last Monday there was a CD presentation of Gary Barlows new album 'Open Road. Over a hundred journalists were invited to come to Paradiso (Biggest Disco in Amsterdam) to listen to some new tracks of his album. Gary also sung his new single 'Love Won't Wait'. Of course he couldn't get away without singing the TT classic 'Back for Good'. The new album "Open Road" will be in the stores on the 26th of May.

Gary Barlow stays in the news, because he has been asked by his ex-colleage Howard Donald, to write a few songs for him. At this moment Howard is in the studio to record his first solo-album and he thinks he can use some help! Gary has promised he will write some songs and will also sing some background-vocals (sessions). The only ex-TT'er who we have not heard from far is Jason Orange, he says he has no musical career-plans for this time.

Thanks for these reports Otto.

The singer songwriter, now pursuing a solo career, will join the likes of George Michael and Elton John in the London exhibition. He has already posed for a two-hour sitting and has lent a pair of white Armani trousers and a blue shirt for his likeness to wear."

Thanks to Becca for sending me the picture and news article.

1 May 97: Gary's Europe Promotion/US Album News
With thanks to Muriel for providing me with possible promotion dates for Gary, apparently he will be in Germany from 1 May and will be going to Holland on May 11 and 12th. NOT confirmed.

Also thanks to Carol for calling Arista on our behalf, they told her that the album has been delayed yet again and may not be released until August now due to more work that Gary needs to do, he will possibly be in LA to shoot a video around the dates of 28 May - June 4th. This is also NOT confirmed.

UK fans don't forget to watch the Ozone on Saturday and Fully Booked on Sunday.

28 April 97: Light Lunch/This Morning TV Appearances
Gary appeared on two TV shows today, the first was this morning, he was interviewed for a while and was asked the usual "Do you still see the other lads" and "Do you miss Take That" questions, he also performed Love Won't Wait.

On Light Lunch (it's basically a lunchtime show where lasting an hour where they cook for, eat with and interview the guests during the show), Gary brought his whole family to sit in the audience, Nanny Bo (his Grandmother), Mum, Dad, brother Ian and Fiance. Gary attempted to make sushi, was fought over by the two female presenters, ate the sushi on a grand piano and then sung Forever Love. Classic quote from Gary as he prepared the Sushi..."I went to the toilet before I came on and haven't washed me hands! I'm only joking!!" Gary was extremely relaxed and it made a change from the usual interviews that we are used to with him.

24 April 97: Clive James Show
Tonight I managed to get hold of tickets for the Clive James Show which is being aired here in the UK on Sunday night (27th). Gary was on the show and interviewed for about 15 minutes (not sure how much of this they will show though) he then did a duet with the resident songstress Marguerite, she is known for her "bad singing", this is why she is on the show, because she is so funny! They sang Back For Good together, with Marguerite doing all the backing vocals. Gary was in stiches the whole time as she was so bad!!!! The whole thing was hilarious so if you are able to see the show on Sunday when it is aired make sure you do so!!
22 April 97: GBIS cancelled
Apologies for bringing you this news late but this is the only chance I have had to update the news page since my return from holiday. The GBIS (Gary's fanclub) is no longer operating, so you are advised not to try and attempt to join. Gary is sorting out a new fan club and I will bring you more news as soon as I hear anything else.

Here's the message from Gary that everyone received..

Hi Everybody,

It feels such a long time since "Forever Love" was released. I hope you haven't forgotten me!! Thank you for being so patient with me over the last year. I know, from the letters I've received, that you all are dying to hear the album "Open Road". This is the hardest album I've ever recorded. I'm confident, however, that you're all gonna love the finished thing. I'm sure by now that most of you have heard "Love Won't Wait". It's probably not what you expected at all. The video is now finished for "Love Won't Wait" and is very exciting. It's shot on a very long road by a guy called Rocky Schenk. It was great fun to make (unlike most vids) and offers many surprises as the song unfolds. I've been to Japan, Korea and Taiwan in the last few weeks. It's been a good warm up for the promotion I'm about to start back home. Lastly, I want to saya big thank you for your continuing support. You'll be seeing lots of me this year. GBIS (my information service) is no longer running but I will be setting up a new service in the not too distant future. Massive apologies about that but I promise you that as soon as the album's up and running it will be my main priority to arrange a new fan club. Soz.
lots and lots of love to you all. Gary xxxx

3 April 97: ICRT
Those of you who have been on the moon the last few days will not realise that Gary did an interview on Taiwan radio today. It was broadcast live over the internet and I do hope that you all managed to listen in. The highlight of the interview, well, the fact that David Wang the interview mentioned this site to Gary who then replied that he had seen the site and thought it was quite good! For those of you who didn't hear it then Kelly has written the transcript for it and we are working on wave files for the songs as I type! ICRT the GBWS favourite radio station!
