"Irish Connection" Summer Lunch
Date: Sunday, 8 August 1999
Location: Planet Hollywood Restaurant, Dublin, Ireland
Written by Nadine Redmond (Photos to follow)
I arrived at Planet Hollywood
at about 12.45 pm. In true Irish style, it was a cold and
wet afternoon. Sharon, Sandra and Christine had already arrived
and we began chatting while we waited for the others to arrive.
After about 10 minutes Aine
and Catherine arrived, we waited until just after 1.00 pm and then
agreed that one else was coming, so we headed on into
the restaurant.
After our meal (which some
of us finished in minutes, while others couldn't eat half of!),
I handed out information about Gary's latest promo dates. We discussed
"Stronger" and its poor chart positions, the next single
and why it's not a new song, when we should hold our next event
and much more!
Next, we raffled off some
Gary prizes. Our first three prizes were thanks to Helen, Jan and
Julia at GB FANS UK. Christine won a GB FANS calendar, Sandra
won two Gary photos and Catherine won a year's membership to GB
FANS. Sharon also donated an Open Road mobile, which was won by
Aine.
As we left the restaurant,
we were greeted with heavy rain and so we made a quick dash for
the nearby Stephen's Green shopping Centre. After a while at the
shops we all went our separate ways home, but not before we purchased
our copies of OK! Magazine featuring Howard Donald and his new daughter,
Grace!
An enjoyable day was had by
all and some great new friendships have been made following just
two events. This shows just how effective GB FANS is at bringing
fans together.
I'm very glad Jan asked me
to get involved and I hope I'll be involved for many years :0)
