Tour Dinners 1998

Helen and I left Lime Street
Station for Deansgate Station at 5.00 p.m. Not a wise move, because
it is a good 15-20 minute walk from that station! We recommend getting
a cab(LOL). Apparently it is only a 5 minutes Walk from NYNEX (now
Manchester Evening News Arena) and from Victoria Station. It is
also 5 minutes by cab from Piccadilly.
We arrived at Pizza Hut at 6.30 pm and waited
for everyone to turn up. We had been allocated the whole of the
downstairs dining area to ourselves and we were allowed to play
our own tapes and CDs – only problem was we had the tapes but
had forgotten the player!
Marie and Janin from Germany were first
to arrive. Janin is one of our team of Co-ordinators in Germany
and it was the first time we had met and we really got on well.
Next to arrive were Lesley and Jackie from Manchester, closely followed
by Juliet and Wendy. Bringing up the rear came Colette and Melanie
from Warrington.
We were then taken to the downstairs dining
room and the staff at Pizza Hut offered their cassette player to
use. Unfortunately it was not in the best of working order and we
had to use a fork to keep the tape door closed (hehehe), but at
least we were able to play Gary’s music all night.
The staff at Pizza Hut were fantastic! They
were very attentive and very helpful – we were soon tucking
in to our meal and chatting away as though we were all old friends,
though most of us had never met before. We found that apart from
our interest in Gary and his music, we had many other things in
common too.Before we finished we held a raffle and Colette won the
signed picture of Gary.
All too soon it was time to go home. Jackie,
Juliet, Wendy and Lesley all wend along to "The Grapes" pub, which
is owned by Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street). Whilst
there, the girls met Gary Wilmot and the cast of “Oliver” who had
popped in for after show drinks!!. Jan and Helen were taken to the
station by Collette and Mel. Janin and Marie went back to their
hotel.
We all agreed to meet up again before the
concert in April - though the concert is now postponed to December.
A very good night was had by all!
